When I started to plan Fastpitch Nation Park, the largest fastpitch complex in New England, I knew I needed something very special for an infield material. Our season is short in this climate and rainouts and playability were our paramount concern. Plus, manpower to manage an 11-field complex with 24 weeks of tournaments had to be manageable and cost effective.
I knew a traditional infield mix, regardless of the quality was not going to suffice. After an extensive search I discovered Southern Red Rock and their incredible natural shale product. We tested the product in our indoor softball facility. After 500 games in the winter we knew this was the right choice for our new outdoor park.
Southern Red Rock was tremendous working with us on all the shipping logistics to get 1,000 tons of material from Alabama to CT The material installed beautifully and we instantly had the finest fields in New England. After our first full season more than 1,000 teams and 3,000 games were played. The rain and heat is no match for this wonderous material. It stays true, does not get hard, grooms fantastically and drains like magic. We never had a cancellation due to unplayable fields. Unless it was raining so hard we were unable to play we played every game of the season.
There is not a finer product for softball infields and warning tracks anywhere.

This premium quality infield mix has really enhanced our playing surface at Voorhees College. This material has allowed us to play a lot of games which may have been rained out in the past. The fascinating fact is that it never fades, is very light and easy to install, and the ball travels great getting true hops. The infielders love taking groundballs and being able to read low to high with comfort. This is a start to allow Voorhees College to be one of the better baseball fields in the south region of the NAIA. Furthermore, our field will help us as a recruiting tool which is very important.
